About BACKWOODS TRAIL COMPANY
OUR EXPERIENCE
With more than a decade of hands-on experience, Jay and Beth Richardson have played a key role in designing, building, and maintaining trail systems across the Southeast — as well as in North Carolina, Ohio, and Texas. Their expertise covers a wide range of trail types, including hiking, walking, side-by-side, and miles of mountain biking routes that bring people closer to nature.
What began as volunteer work with SORBA (Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association) chapters soon grew into a lifelong mission: to help communities experience the outdoors through sustainable trail development. From construction and maintenance to leading family rides and participating in mountain bike racing, Jay and Beth combine technical expertise with a genuine love for the outdoors.
Today, they’re dedicated to helping cities, organizations, and landowners create meaningful outdoor spaces that connect people, promote wellness, and strengthen communities.
